Poplar Bluff Museum
The Poplar Bluff History Museum, located in the historic Mark Twain School at 1010 N. Main Street, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Poplar Bluff and Butler County. Visitors can explore exhibits highlighting local schools and businesses, veterans and the Hall of Heroes, police and firefighters, the devastating 1927 tornado, sports, scouting, conservation, medicine, postal history, and the people who helped shape the community.
The museum also hosts special programs and events throughout the year, including its popular historic walking tours in October, which bring local history to life by sharing stories about significant buildings, events, and residents of Poplar Bluff.
Other activities include special exhibitions, fundraising programs, and the annual Night at the Museum Gala, all of which help support the preservation of the historic building and the continued development of exhibits and educational programs.

The Wheatley Historic Preservation Association (WHPA) is a nonprofit organization in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the historic Wheatley School, which served as a segregated school for African American students from 1928 until integration in 1955. Today, the school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the City of Poplar Bluff. WHPA maintains the historic building, including the Black History Museum on the second floor, while also making the gymnasium available for community events and rentals. Through annual celebrations such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Valentine's Day, Father's Day, and the Christmas Gala, as well as its Students Succeeding in School Program, the association continues to honor the school's history while serving the community. Working with local educators, WHPA helps teach area students about African American history and the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Poplar Bluff.
The association's mission is to ensure that Wheatley School remains a place of education, remembrance, and community for generations to come.
